Two Merlots Ago

The letter had been sitting there, along with her purse and keys, since she had gotten home. Her arrival had been like a sudden summer storm. A late afternoon coffee combined with her bus being late put the odds of her peeing her pants between the bus stop and her apartment door at “most likely”. That had been two glasses of merlot and an episode of Grey’s Anatomy ago. She put her wine glass down and picked up the
envelope, praying that its contents would not require any significant amount of thinking from her already tired brain. It was a white envelope with her address carefully hand written on the front. She turned it over to see the return address and froze. A feeling of dread welled up, starting in her stomach and quickly moving outward to encompass the whole of her body. She threw the letter away from her and knocked her glass of wine off the table in the process. The glass shattered as it hit the floor, splashing merlot on the wall and on her Spice Girls pajama pants.
A Place To Happen
Ink on 8.5"x11" paper (2018)
So I'll paint a scene, from memory,
So I'd know who murdered me
It's a vain pursuit, but it helps me to sleep
Looking for a place to happen
Making stops along the way

The witch stopped abruptly. Slowly she turned her head to the left and stared at the trees in the distance. The wind blew her jet black hair into her face but she didn't notice. She felt... something. After a few moments she closed her eyes and allowed her other senses to do the work. Reaching out she found a familiar presence. She looked up and watched a raven fly overhead. She brushed the hair from your eyes and disappeared into the darkness of her hut.
